Regardless of any political assessment of the war， a highly significant trend is emerging here： wars are increasingly being fought autonomously.

I recall my school days， when we debated ethical and moral questions，such as whether it is justifiable to sacrifice several people for the sake of one， or to sacrifice younger people in favor of older ones， and so forth. Everyone is likely familiar with the "Trolley Problem，" too.

Decisions regarding these questions are increasingly being made by machines. Far be it from me to be a "doomer"， not at all. Yet， this is a crucial debate， particularly concerning AI-powered autonomous weapons.

Anthropic has stated that it does not want its models used for such purposes. They will likely remain the exception， however.

My point is that we are entering an era where the human role as a moral arbiter is shifting； instead， AI models are trained in advance based on moral codes and endowed with underlying value systems. Humans， however， act differently. Even in the military， orders are refused if they are objectionable or violate moral principles. The situation is different with machines. Consequently， we will witness entirely new types of warfare and entirely new ethical and moral debates.

For one thing is clear： autonomous weapons will become the standard， not the exception.
