Alibaba is reportedly banning employees from using Claude Code at work starting July 10.
The company has classified Anthropic’s coding agent as high-risk software after reports that Claude Code contained hidden checks to identify China-linked users.
Anthropic already bans Chinese companies, and foreign entities owned by them, from using its models. The company says the Claude Code experiment was meant to stop unauthorized resellers and protect against model distillation.
Alibaba is now telling staff to use its own Qoder tool instead.
The war of bans just started,.
