Anthropic will begin deploying AMD's latest MI450 accelerators in the first half of 2027. It will buy chips for its own data centers and lease additional capacity through cloud providers and neoclouds.
AMD's investment is tied to deployment milestones. The company is also reportedly discussing a financial backstop for Anthropic's future data-center leases.
The capacity is urgently needed: surging demand has forced Anthropic to limit usage, while some customers have reported frequent outages. Lisa Su: "You actually have to plan, you know, 12, 18, 24 months in advance for what you want."
This is very important for us. More computing power means that, in the long term, Anthropic's biggest bottleneck will be gradually resolved.
