Insilico Medicine CEO Alex Zhavoronkov says combining AI with China's R&D ecosystem has shortened drug discovery timelines to about one year. In its fastest case, the company reached a drug candidate in just nine months, compared with a typical cycle of around 13 months. Insilico's first AI-designed drug, Rentosertib, has already entered Phase II trials. But despite the company's large China operation, more than 90% of its revenue still comes from Western pharmaceutical companies. The company now plans to expand its Shanghai R&D center while keeping software sales in China limited. In other words, China remains central to Insilico's research engine, but not yet to its commercial market.
