Google is restructuring its AI leadership as Demis Hassabis steps away from day-to-day operations at DeepMind to focus on AGI, science and global strategy.

Hassabis becomes Chair of Google DeepMind and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, while continuing to lead Isomorphic Labs.

Koray Kavukcuoglu takes operational control as SVP of DeepMind, overseeing Gemini development, frontier research, and the Gemini app and developer teams.

Hassabis also confirmed that Gemini 4 is in development and said AGI now feels "close at hand."

Demis Hassabis is one of the most important scientists of our time, and I wish him all the best and much success in his new role. Meeting him in person was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had.
