OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a presentation startup founded roughly a year ago, and moved its entire team onto ChatGPT.
NextSlide built software that turned prompts, notes, documents, or research into an editable presentation.
That editable output is the step ChatGPT handled least well, since its natively generated .pptx files arrived as plain white slides with unformatted text boxes.
OpenAI published its ChatGPT add-in for Microsoft PowerPoint on May 21, 2026, months after the NextSlide deal had already closed.
That add-in creates and edits slides inside PowerPoint and can pull material from connected services such as Gmail, Outlook, and SharePoint.
Ofcourse, neither Beshry nor OpenAI has said whether NextSlide's people or code went into it.
Anthropic and Google already generate slides inside Claude and Google Slides, so OpenAI gains ground only if its decks need less fixing afterwards.
