The White House may bring frontier open-weight models into its classified prerelease cyber-testing framework, WIRED reports.

Executive Order 14409 already directs federal agencies to set a classified cyber-capability threshold for deciding which systems qualify as covered frontier models.

Keeping open weights outside could create a trust gap if enterprises begin treating reviewed closed models as government-vetted while comparable open models lack the same review.
