The new Computer History in ChatGPT can now remember what you did on your Mac, without screenshots.

gives ChatGPT and Codex a memory layer built from activity across allowed apps and websites rather than chat history alone.

So instead of Chronicle's screenshot-based approach, it records clicks, typing, shortcuts, app switches and accessibility context, then summarizes that activity into memories.

The privacy model is partly local: temporary event files stay on the Mac for up to 48 hours, while OpenAI processes them server-side to generate memories.

Generated memories remain as plain-text Markdown files on the Mac until deletion, and OpenAI says Computer History itself does not encrypt them.

OpenAI also warns that content encountered in apps or websites can carry malicious instructions into the captured context, creating prompt-injection risk.
