Nvidia moving deeper into OpenAI infrastructure by backing SB Energy with capital and credit.
Nvidia reportedly is discussing to invest $3B in SB Energy and support about $100B of Ohio data-center financing.
DOE says SB Energy plans 10GW of power generation for a 10GW data-center development in Pike County, Ohio.
OpenAI is reported as the intended tenant. So Nvidia's financing support to SB Energy will help a major chip customer (OpenAI) secure physical capacity.
OpenAI and SoftBank had already each invested $500M in SB Energy in January 2026, so Nvidia's proposed stake would deepen an existing Stargate financing relationship.
This can pull Nvidia's own hardware demand forward. If Nvidia's backing lowers SB Energy's financing cost, capacity can be built sooner and GPU purchases can arrive sooner too, but some risk that normally belongs to the borrower or tenant migrates onto Nvidia through the guarantee.
That is vendor financing logic applied at data-center scale.
