Nvidia’s guarantee is turning GPU capacity into something banks are willing to lend against.
Bloomberg reports banks offered GMI Cloud NT$30B ($947 mn), more than twice its request, as Nvidia backstops unused GPU capacity.
Nvidia will lease any unused capacity at an agreed price for as long as 6 years. That commitment gives GMI Cloud a revenue floor even when outside customers do not fill the GPUs.
A competing GPU vendor now has another hurdle beyond chip performance: financing partners must trust its balance sheet and future demand enough to lend against its installed base.
