GPT-6 Astra just raised Epoch AI’s capability record from 163 to 169. A substantial jump that still fits the existing pace of AI progress.

Epoch’s reasoning-era trend runs at roughly 15 ECI points per year. For scale, that six-point gap represents almost five months of progress at the trend rate! Astra sits slightly above the trendline, but within its uncertainty range.

Some individual results are really important: 84% on Mystery Game Puzzles versus the previous best of 59%, and 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, which Epoch now considers fully saturated.

However, strangely enough this doesnt align with Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index at all. Why?

Epoch and Artificial Analysis use different benchmarks and weighting methods, so Astra can lead Epoch’s index without leading AA’s more agent- and coding-focused evaluation. The results show a substantial improvement on Epoch’s measure, however, not a clear advantage across all capabilities and practical tasks.
