DeepSeek is on a hiring spree.
On September 7, Cui Tianyi, who leads DeepSeek’s Harness team, publicly announced around 150 openings, calling it an “unprecedented” hiring push.
DeepSeek’s latest hiring push is quite different from its previous one. Most of the new openings are for backend engineers and Agent infrastructure, rather than AI researchers.
That reflects how quickly DeepSeek’s systems have grown. The number of machines, containers, training and evaluation jobs, Agent environments and user requests is all increasing rapidly, putting more pressure on the company’s existing backend infrastructure. DeepSeek now needs engineers to upgrade and rebuild those systems as the company scales.
The move comes just months after DeepSeek signaled a major expansion, followed by new versions of its V4 models and Harness developer tools. It has also sharply raised API prices, with some increases reaching 11 times.
