Regardless of any political assessment of the war, a highly significant trend is emerging here: wars are increasingly being fought autonomously.
I recall my school days, when we debated ethical and moral questions, such as whether it is justifiable to sacrifice several people for the sake of one, or to sacrifice younger people in favor of older ones, and so forth. Everyone is likely familiar with the "Trolley Problem," too.
Decisions regarding these questions are increasingly being made by machines. Far be it from me to be a "doomer", not at all. Yet, this is a crucial debate, particularly concerning AI-powered autonomous weapons.
Anthropic has stated that it does not want its models used for such purposes. They will likely remain the exception, however.
