Brad Lightcap, one of OpenAI's most important non-technical builders, is leaving after eight years to start something new.
He joined in 2018 and built much of the machinery behind OpenAI: Finance, Legal, People, Security, GTM, Government and Partnerships. As COO, he helped turn a small research lab into a company serving nearly one billion users.
In April, he moved from the COO role to special projects involving complex deals and investments.
Why leave? Lightcap says he has been thinking about "a few important new things the world will need to get right" as AI enters its next phase (whatever that means).
Big loss. I wish him all the best!
